Hope is hearing the melody of the future. Faith is to dance to it. ~R. Alves
sweet stolen seconds of sanity
I feel quite unlike myself today. Because of my procrastination in doing laundry, I find that I am dressed rather nicely. My pressed green trousers and my yellow button down blouse are nicely accessorized by my shiny brown penny loafers, whose thick rubber heel add an inch or two to my height, and a cream wraparound sweater which still totes the sparkly silver and gold butterfly that I so considerately pinned to it a few Sundays ago. My hair is neatly scraped back into a tight little bun, clamped down with a tortoise shell clip. Really, I am quite surprised that during my day slaving over my books and notes in the library no one has come up to me assuming I work here. Perhaps if I were wearing a pair of thin wire frame specs...
Ah well...
At least it is good to get my mind out of my history books and into the present. The sun is shining today, the birds are warbling away, and only white fluffy clouds dot the azure sky. Sigh. And today would be a day for my midterm.
A day when I want to wander lazily through fields of dandelions and tulips. A day when I want to lie beneath the shade of an old tree and stare dreamily up through the branches as I watch the clouds paint pictures against the sky. A day when I can smell, hear, touch, breathe, sense, live, believe that spring has finally come. A day that is a rarity and not to be abused.
But no. I spend the day sitting in a dim library, surrounded by the musty scent of old unread books and the gentle murmer of confused patrons who would much rather check out a movie or use a computer than actually sit down and read. A day when I vainly try to make sure my attention is more focused on my textbook than the window across the room, leading to the bright world outside.
But in my study of the history of Yorkshire, I think it would only be fitting if I took some time to actually experience this county I'm living in. At least, that's the excuse I'm giving as I sneak a break in my studying...
Besides...I'm not really myself today, am I? That way I justify my abnormal rebellious act of not studying. Sigh...that will only last for an hour or so, then the pressure of the exam will mount, and back to my textbook and notes I will go...
ps--Happy Earth Day. I hope your day is as beautiful and enticing as mine.
