No, I'm not talking about beauty.
I'm talking about age (which, as we all know, comes before beauty, anyway).
Specifically... apparently not looking one's age.
Now...
...I have dealt with this in the past. When I was younger, people would assume I was three or more years older than I was. When I was going to university, people were convinced I was still in high school... or they would ask about my husband (which frankly isn't too crazy, considering my environs was a military base, where they do marry young).
And now I am beyond question an adult (ok, so there may still be some question).
But I am past the age of 21. I am no longer a dependent (weeellll... I'm trying not to be, and hopefully soon shall be living on my own). I am a university graduate (two college degrees!).
And yet I still have people convinced that I can't be more than eighteen-years-old.
Sigh.
I know I really shouldn't complain... because, after all, don't most women want to seem younger than they really are?
However, it gets a bit tiresome trying to convince people that you are old enough to qualify for certain things and that you are responsible, and that you are not going into university, but have already finished with your degree, so when you say you would like continue your education, you mean Master's or Doctorate.
But at least I've been able to cash in on my youthful looks, because I've been able to get student discounts a few places (a free drink at Chipotle, for example). It wasn't exactly lying. I just told them I didn't have a student ID with me.
Ok, ok...
It was lying. And I'm sorry.
Maybe my sin will add some extra grey hair and make me look older before my time...
